What is Bloomsday?
Named after the main character in Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, Bloomsday celebrates the day on which the novel is set - June 16, at the turn of the 20th century.
Bloomsday is famed by Joyceans across the globe and PJ Murphy's will be celebrating Ireland's past by bringing it to Kingston's present - through the eyes of James Joyce's Ulysses. We encourage locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves by dressing up like the characters (in clothes that would have been the style of the era), eating food mentioned in the book, and enjoying the live music at the pub.
Join us for a delectable Bloomsday celebration at PJ Murphy's! We’ll start with a full Irish breakfast ($12) and continue with a few Joycean flourishes including: - Bloom's Gorgonzola Cheese and Bacon Burger with Mustard and a glass of Burgundy in hand (A twist on Bloom's lunch at Davy Byrnes Pub served in Ulysses), - A Leopold dinner of Liver Slices Fried with Crust Crumbs & Bacon, a glass of Burgundy and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Not sure what to wear? One of the hallmark fancy dress items of Bloomsday is the straw boater hat.
We will be giving out FREE hats to the first 20 guests to help them blend in!
